Brent Bellinger, Ph.D., Earns Bold Award
Dr. Brent Bellinger received the highest honor for a young investigator in phycology (study of algae) at the Phycological Society of America meeting in Rhode Island in August this year. The Bold Award is named in honor of the late Professor Harold C. Bold, one of the founders of the PSA, and has been awarded at PSA annual meetings since 1974. Students within one year of completion of their graduate degree compete for this award for the outstanding student research presentation. Brent received a certificate and a $750 prize. Dr. Bellinger is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Florida and the South Florida Water Management District (Everglades). Dr. Bellinger is a recent graduate of Michigan Tech, completing his Ph.D. in Biology under the advisement of Dr. Michael Gretz. He was also a member of the Biotechnology Research Center.
