Distance Education
Marilyn Urion presented material on distance learning programs. This included
- letter of agreement between MTU and corporate partner
- intellectual property agreement
A Proposed policy on transfer credits was presented. Below is an outline of the proposal
- Transfer credits before enrollment at MTU require a request for transfer credit during first term of residence
- Transfer credits taken after enrollment must be approved in advance of course registration
- For on campus programs 1/3 of non-research credits may be transferred.
- For off-campus programs 1/2 of the credits may be transferred.
There was sentiment that the policy should be the same for on-campus and off-campus students.
The GFC discussed the option of limiting pre-enrollment transfer credit at 1/3 of non-research courses and let departments put additional restrictions on pre-enrollment or post-enrollment transfer credits.
There was sentiment that the oral requirement for a plan C M.S. degree and for a distance education M.S. degree, be dropped. This issue was referred back to the Graduate School of consideration.
