Minutes of the Graduate Council Meeting March 20, 2000

Strategic Planning Retreat

David Landon attended the retreat and reported on his experience. There was a strong emphasis on research and graduate education. The Board of Control was educated about the value of graduate studies & research.

Academic Probation Policy

The proposed new academic probation policy that was circulated was passed by consensus of those present and email messages received. It was agreed statement that students should see their advisor should be put in the letter students would receive if they go on probation.

Distance Learning

Bruce Mork handed out information about the remote MS-EE program and discussed the proposal with overheads.

Visibility

It was suggested that the Graduate Council should perhaps be on the Board of Control agenda regularly. Other suggestions for forums (Senate?) were suggested.

Tuition

The report of the Graduate Tuition Task Force will be sent to the Graduate Council.

Next meeting will be April 4.
